Sharda Prasad belongs to the 1973 batch of IPS borne on the Assam & Meghalaya cadre. After his superannuation, he is enrolled as an Advocate with the Delhi High Court Bar Council and a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

He is an Aviation Security expert, having served as Commissioner of BCAS and as a security expert with the Civil Aviation Ministry after his retirement. He has written a textbook on aviation security.

Sharda Prasad has witnessed northeastern insurgencies and their resolution from close quarters.
